Crumbs, 2026

Pine, floorboard, steel, leather, rope, twine, bread
Dimention variable

Still

Crumbs is conceived as a site awaiting activation and a structure that holds tension between stillness and potential movement. The installation takes the form of a fence-like enclosure, constructed from wood whose surfaces appear gnawed, as if chewed away by animals.

The structure evokes a system of containment, recalling architectures of discipline and domestication. Yet its construction destabilizes this authority: the wooden elements are assembled through twine-bound joints, loosely connected like the limbs of a puppet.

Activation

Yan enters from across the room, bent forward as she drags a basket along the floor. A long, jointed wooden tail extends from her neck, trailing behind her. Moving in a half-crawl, she leaves a path of silver bread, marking her passage.

Reaching the structure, she gently strikes her head against one of its legs, setting the entire form trembling. She circles it, carefully placing bread along its surface.

Within the structure, she pulls out ropes and begins binding them around the wooden poles. As she did so, the structure shakes and her body becomes increasingly restricted by the accumulating ties. Her movements grow strained.

To reach the final points, she violently agitates the structure. The bread falls; parts of the form begin to break. In the end, she comes to stillness, holding a single pole with a sense of longing.
